Artist Statement
Watercolor has a pleasing, soft, momentary quality despite being an incredibly challenging medium. For these reasons, watercolor has been my language of choice for over a decade. I can think of no better way to capture the honesty of everyday human activity. Working with watercolor perfectly mirrors the rhythm of life.
My subjects are found in the communal spaces and quiet routines that define our lives. My work centers on the beauty of these mundane moments. The brief and transient settings we pass through daily without notice form the backbone of what it means to be human.
Painting outdoors or en plein air is central to my art. On location, I have the privilege of engaging directly with my community. I essentially become one of those "passing moments" in their lives. The endless interactions and conversations become part of the process itself. This unpredictability forces a spontaneity that carries over to my studio, which, to me, is essential to creating watercolors that feel alive.
