Watercolor has a pleasing, soft, momentary quality. It dries quickly, dries light, and is easily influenced by gravity. I can think of no better medium to capture the honesty of everyday human life. I like to paint laundromats, workers, traffic, bridges, old buildings, and whatever else feels worth it to me. Painting outdoors or "en plein air", as they say, is central to my work. Not only is it a good teacher, it provides a spontaneity that carries over into my studio work.
