Winter's Coming (Central Park)
My goal with this piece was to capture the quiet atmosphere of a foggy morning in the park. I have always wanted to push softer, more subtle value changes in my work, and working across a nearly four-foot sheet gave me the space to lean into those delicate wet-into-wet washes. Inspired by a cold autumn morning where one tree had completely dropped its leaves while the distant canopy stayed full, it was a rewarding challenge to bring nature to the forefront of a scene in New York. Sometimes I get tired of painting rectangles (buildings).
