The Guggenheim

I set out to paint the Guggenheim for the very first time (technically I painted it before, but it was more an ice cream truck). I rode my bike to 5th Ave and neglected to check the weather, so naturally a thunderstorm was there to greet me. I retreated to a nearby bar to wait out the storm over a beer. When the rain cleared, I set up my easel and gave it a shot. It was a total disaster. Lesson learned, I guess. I took that painting back to the studio and looked at it for a while before deciding to give the subject another go. This piece is the result. I wanted to highlight all the people around the area and how the sunlight bangs off the museum. On the street I made it far too dark and overshot the light. I find there's a lot more control in the studio, so I was able to hone in on those aspects there.
